Silver Fort

History

Silver fort is one of the few remaining fortifications still in use from the time before the Splintering, its excact founding date is unknown, but records in the keep library date back to more than 500 years. Originally a silver mine and a fortified mining settlement on the northern edge of Mt Argent, and the start of one of the ancient border walls originally built during the Empire's eastwards expansion.

Around 150 years ago an Orcish invasion broke through the border walls further east and Silver fort and the wall starting from it were hastily repaired and the Keep became a important logistics hub. When the orcs were finally pushed back, the old border wall was never rebuilt and Silver Fort became the cornerstone of the Duchy's eastern borders. As time passed, it slowly lost its importance as more and more settlements and forts were built beyond the wall and the land reclaimed and it was mostly considered a dead end for anyone assigned there.

The Last War around 30 years ago changed everything: Orcish armies broke through the border wall in several places and razed almost all of the settlements in their way. Almost all keeps eastward were either abandoned or destroyed by Orks giving the invading armies free path to the cities of the Dutchy. Only daring raids and frequent use of nearby dwarven tunnels of Mt.Argent to harrass the passing Orcish warbands gave the rest of the Duchy-s military enough time to set up new defensive positions on the shores of Ice lake and Freya's Hair and prevent further advancement.

Current status

Once again the Silver Keep has become an important cornerstone in the reclamation of the eastern areas and the staging point for the Border scouts. New scout units are continually trained here to keep an eye out on any problematic movements in the frontier areas.
