The heir of house Rembov, Ivan Rembov was a local 'Mech gladiator of some renown, a lot of money and a goal to make it to Solaris VII. To that end he had a custom Rifleman RFL-3C called the “Double Tap” built to his exact specifications.
The Company got tangled in this mess by a simple convoy raid contract. There was only one objective - the heavy 'Mech being transported in the convoy does not leave the engagement zone intact.
The Rembov Family Royal Guard protecting the convoy was ill prepared to fend off a full lance of 'Mechs and the Company was able to route the convoy without much trouble. The Rifleman RFL-3C stowed in the heavy transport seemed too good to waste, so the Company salvaged it.
The employers did not care as long as it left the system. It turns out, if you can't beat them, have their knees bashed in works as good in the 31st century, as it did in the 21st.
